Elected to SIRA’s Board of Directors
I am thrilled to announce that I’ve been elected to the Society of Information Risk Analysts (SIRA) Board of Directors.
I was appointed in November 2019 to fill a vacancy and had a great time working with the Board and helping advance SIRA’s mission. There’s so much more to do, so I ran for a full 2-year spot.
SIRA means a lot to me. I first joined SIRA back in 2012 when I was trying to soak up as much information as I could on risk management, quantitative models and new techniques, and find people to network with. I wouldn’t be where I am in my career without the help and support from SIRA members over the years, and now it’s time to give a little bit back.
As a Board member, I’m focused on two main things: driving member value and advocating for improving rigor in the risk field. There are several initiatives I’m working on:
Webinars: In the last year, I restarted SIRA’s monthly webinar series, offering members consistent access to the leaders in our space and up to 12 CPE’s a year. Members have another year to look forward to, with a compelling line up of talks. If you have something to say or would like to test an idea out, contact me for a webinar pitch.
Training: With Lisa Young, I co-developed curriculum and taught the second annual SIRA Quantitative Risk Skills Seminar. It’s a 2-day seminar and we cover everything from risk management basics to quantitative research methods, models, calibration, and much more. More dates are coming soon - stay tuned.
SIRAcon: A conference is a team effort and takes a ton of work, virtual or not. SIRAcon 2020 was a smashing success, setting attendance records. Going virtual meant that we had a global audience too, reaching many new people. I look forward to an even better one next year.
Regardless of where you are in your risk quant journey - sticking your toe in the water or 20 years of experience, please consider joining SIRA if you are not already a member. The ability to network with peers and share insights is invaluable. You will also be supporting a non-profit that is dedicated to advancing quantitative risk techniques. We need more of that.
Thank you to all the SIRA members for electing me. It’s going to be a great run.
